PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a negative electrode material for an aluminum battery capable of restraining hydrogen gas generation in discharging it.
SOLUTION : This negative electrode material is characterized by containing an alloy having a composition expressed by the following formula (1) : ZnaMnbSncMdAl100-a-b-c-d, wherein M is an element including at least one kind of element selected from a group comprising Ga, Ti, Zr, Cr, Mg and a rare earth element; a, b, c and d satisfy 0.01 wt.%≤a≤20 wt.%, 0.01 wt.%≤b≤30 wt.%, 0≤c≤0.01 wt.% and 0≤d≤3 wt.%, respectively.
