METHOD FOR PRODUCING 2-ADAMANTANONE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method capable of selectively and efficiently producing 2-adamantanone by oxidizing adamantane under mild conditions. SOLUTION : In the method for producing the 2-adamantanone by oxidizing the adamantane using molecular oxygen as an oxidizing agent, (1) a step for obtaining a mixture of adamantanol with 2-adamantanone by oxidizing adamantane and a re-oxidizing step for increasing yield of 2-adamantanone by re-oxidizing a part or all of the mixture are included and (2) each component is used for re-oxidizing step without isolating the each component when the mixture is re-oxidized and (3) a catalyst comprising a VIII to X group metal of the periodic table as an active ingredient is used in the re-oxidizing step.
