PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To prevent the breakdown of an inverter device due to a dead short-circuit, and to obviate breakdown, ever under a rare short-circuit state which does not reach the dead short-circuit. SOLUTION : This inverter device has a DC-to-DC conversion circuit 1, having an operation control terminal 5c and changed over to operation/stoppage at a voltage level applied to the operation control terminal 5c, a self-holding circuit 10, in which an output terminal 10b is connected at the operation control terminal 5c, and the voltage level of the operation control terminal 5c is held at a first level, where the DC-to-DC conversion circuit 1 is brought into an operating state, a DC-to-AC conversion circuit 2 containing a transformer 15, to which a primary winding 15a is connected, on the output side of the DC-to-DC conversion circuit 1 and converting the output voltage of the DC-to-DC conversion circuit 1 into a high-frequency voltage, an overcurrent detecting element 17, through which a current flowing through a second winding 15c flows, and an overcurrent detector 25 for releasing the holding of the first level of the self-hold circuit 10 when a current flowed through the overcurrent- detecting element exceeds a specified value and changing over the voltage level of the operation control terminal 5c into a second level, where the DC-to-DC conversion circuit 1 is brought to a stopped state.
