PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain an easily available pigment having different mass color tones by combining a visual angle-dependent interference phenomenon with absorption colors for expanding the ranges of a chalcogenide/an oxychalcogrnide-based pearlescent pigments.
SOLUTION : This pearlescent pigment is based on a substrate containing at least one selective light absorption layer consisting of the chalcogenide and/or oxychalcogenide excluding rare earth elements and yttrium sulfide, and the rare earth elements and yttrium oxysulfide. Further, preferably, the chalcogenide and/or oxychalcogenide are a metal chalcogenide and/or metal oxychalogenide of a metal selected from the 2nd and/or 4-16th groups of the periodic table.
