PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a gap-surface combustion burner having improved heat efficiency by forming a porous burner element of amorphous Si-C-M-O ceramic inorganic continuous fibers with a radiation grid adequate to the combustion characteristics thereof. SOLUTION : The gap combustion burner comprises the burner element having the amorphous Si-C-M-O ceramic inorganic continuous fibers of diameters of 8-25μm laminated at a porosity of 60-98% and the radiation grid provided 1-15mm apart from the surface of the burner element. M in the composition of the Si-C-M-O ceramic inorganic continuous fibers is one or two or more metal elements selected from alkali metal forming stable oxide, carbide and silicide, alkali earth metal, polyvalent metal, transition metal, precious metal, rare earth metal and actinide metal.
