PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing an R-T-B based sintered magnet that has high Br and high HcJ while reduced in content of heavy rare earth elements.
SOLUTION : An R-T-B-Cu-M based sintered magnet having a molar ratio of [T]/[B] of more than 14.0 is obtained by a manufacturing method including the steps of : preparing an R-T-B-Cu-M based sintered body having a molar ratio of [T]/[B] of more than 14.0; preparing an R-Ga-Fe-A based alloy; bringing at least a part of the R-Ga-Fe-A based alloy into contact with at least a part of the surface of the R-T-B-Cu-M based sintered body and performing first heat treatment at a temperature of 700°C or above and 1, 100°C or below; and subjecting an R-T-B-Cu-M based sintered body having been subjected to the first heat treatment to second heat treatment at a temperature of 450°C or above and 600°C or below.
