Provided is a method for efficiently and stably producing, via a water atomization process, an alloyed steel powder containing easily-oxidizable Cr as an alloying element. This method for producing an alloyed steel powder for a sintered member starting material includes a water atomization step for obtaining a water-atomized iron-based powder by water-atomizing a molten steel, and a heat treatment step for obtaining an alloyed steel powder by heat-treating the water-atomized iron-based powder for reduction. The alloyed steel powder has a component composition that contains, as alloying elements, at most 0.3-3.5 mass% Cr and 0.08 mass% Mn, with the remainder comprising Fe and unavoidable impurities. The C content [C] (mass%) in the molten steel and the Cr content [Cr] (mass%) in the molten steel satisfy the relation of formula (1) : 0.10≤[C]/[Cr]2/3≤0.35.
