PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a novel metal bond magnet which is superior in heat resistance (high-temperature shape retention) and magnetic property.
SOLUTION : A metal bond magnet of the present invention comprises : magnet particles made of a rare earth magnet alloy; and a binder for binding the magnet particles to one another. The binder comprises Sn and Cu. The metal bond magnet is 80% or more in relative density, and has an excellent magnetic property. The rare earth magnet alloy may be any of a Sm-Fe-N based alloy, a Nd-Fe-B based alloy and a Nd-Fe-N based alloy. The metal bond magnet of the invention can be obtained by heating the magnet particles made of a rare earth magnet alloy, raw material powder in which Sn and Cu sources are mixed, or a compact thereof at e.g. 250-450°C. The heating can be performed by e.g. a pulse energized sintering method (SPS). It is preferred that the Cu source is supplied as a plating layer coating the surface of each magnet particle.
