FIELD : metallurgy. SUBSTANCE : invention relates to the production of magnesium alloys and can be used to produce biodegradable implants. Method for producing a magnesium alloy having improved mechanical and electrochemical properties, includes the production of high-purity magnesium by vacuum distillation, obtaining an alloy billet by synthesis of magnesium with high purity Zn and Al in an amount of 1.5 to 7.0 wt% Zn and from 0.5 to 3.5 wt% Al, the balance - magnesium and impurities, including Fe, Si, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Y, Sc or rare earth elements having atomic numbers 21, 57 to 71 and 89 to 103, Be, Cd, In, Sn and/or Pb, and P, which contribute to the difference in the electrochemical potential and/or the formation of precipitates and/or intermetallic phases, with a total content not exceeding 0.0063 wt%, wherein the content of Zn alloying additives is equal to or greater than the content of Al alloying additives; homogenisation of the alloy by annealing at a temperature between 250°C and 350°C for 1 to 60 hours and cooling under the influence of air and on a water bath; at least single moulding of the homogenised alloy in the temperature range between 250°C and 350°C; in some cases, heat treatment in the temperature range between 200°C and 350°C with exposure time of 5 minutes to 6 hours.
